Hotel EMC2
In this hotel, science meets art in a sleek and modern look. The architectural firm KOO was asked to develop a tower facade that fit a hotel-room module, introduce a diagonal geometry, and use a subtle but identifiable color range to make a pattern. The architects decided on metal panels versus brick for the walls, which are lighter and more dynamic. Technoform's polyamide thermal barrier and hybrid warm edge spacer offer superior thermal performance without sacrificing design, and most importantly, durability to the facade.
This 21 story hotel, located in downtown Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood, won the 2018 ALA Design Merit Award in the commercial building category.
Wausau Window & Wall Systems supplied 396 of its 4250i-XLT Invent Series windows with Technoform’s extra-wide polyamide thermal barrier and 4 7/8-inch-deep aluminum frames. Linetec finished the aluminum frames in Black with a 70 percent PVDF resin-based PPG Duranar coating from PPG Industries. Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope fabricated the glass for the windows with Vitro Architectural Glass’ Solarban 60 low-E glass and warm edge spacers from Technoform.
