Hotel EMC2
In this hotel, science meets art in a sleek and modern look. The architectural firm KOO was asked to develop a tower facade that fit a hotel-room module, introduce a diagonal geometry, and use a subtle but identifiable color range to make a pattern. The architects decided on metal panels versus brick for the walls, which are lighter and more dynamic.
This 21 story hotel won the 2018 ALA Design Merit Award in the commercial building category.
It is located in downtown Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood.
